Unquiet Desires

Dark. Erotic. Supernatural.

A collection of standalone stories where desire meets the supernatural. Ghosts, mysteries, impossible places and dark twists — with happy endings never guaranteed.

Some portraits are better left on the wall.

When Jamie buys an old painting because of its uncanny resemblance to his girlfriend Hannah, she is less than impressed.

But there is something unsettling about the woman in the portrait. Something about her eyes. And as strange things begin happening in their home, Hannah becomes increasingly convinced that the woman in the painting isn't quite as still as she should be.

Some journeys were never meant to end.

In the summer of 1967, Tony and Jean are looking forward to nothing more sinister than a day out on a newly reopened heritage railway. Steam trains, country stations and a picnic among the ruins of Thornclough seem a pleasant escape from ordinary life.

But Thornclough has a history.

On 25 August 1928, a special train carrying some of the district's wealthiest families set out on its inaugural journey to Manchester. It never arrived. A catastrophic tunnel collapse buried the train beneath Pendle Hill — and everyone aboard with it.

Nearly forty years later, as evening approaches and fog begins to creep across the station, Tony boards the wrong train.

Inside, the carriages are impossibly luxurious. Champagne is flowing. Dinner is about to be served. The passengers are dressed for another age.

And a beautiful young woman is waiting for him.

She calls herself Catherine Carter.

Tony knows he should get off.

But Catherine has other ideas.

The Last Train Home is the first story in Unquiet Desires, a collection of dark, sensual tales where desire and the supernatural meet — and happy endings are never guaranteed.
